Lieutenant Governor Inaugurates Tawi Filmotsva, A Short Film Festival to Promote Local Talent

JAMMU, MARCH 23: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated ‘Tawi Filmotsva,’ a short film festival organized by the J&K Cine Association at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The festival is dedicated to promoting local talent and showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage through cinema.In his address, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the organizers, filmmakers, and participants, emphasizing the power of cinema as a medium for education and social change.”Cinema is an effective medium of education and a powerful agent of social change. I want our local talent to maintain a balance between entertainment and social concern and use this powerful medium for the benefit of society and social transformation,” said the Lieutenant Governor.He highlighted the progressive film policies introduced by the government to create a thriving film ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed pride in the Union Territory’s growing presence in filmmaking, stating, “Today, I am proud that Jammu and Kashmir has found its place in film-making. Our efforts of peace and development in the past five years have made Jammu and Kashmir a more attractive destination for Hindi, regional, and foreign film shooting.”The Lieutenant Governor also acknowledged the role of technological advancements in empowering local filmmakers, actors, and cinema professionals. He encouraged them to use their creativity to address social issues and bring about positive change.”Creativity is not only a means of fulfilling one’s dream but also a vehicle for social change. Cinema has had an unparalleled impact on society, raising awareness about various social evils. I want our youth to nurture their creativity to eliminate social evils like drug addiction and use their talents for good deeds that transform lives,” he added.The Lieutenant Governor also urged young artists to support the government’s efforts in reaching out to the disadvantaged and ensuring a life of dignity for all.On the occasion, he released a brochure for ‘Tawi Filmotsva’ and lauded the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) for its continuous efforts to preserve and promote the artistic and cultural heritage of the region.The event witnessed the presence of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu; Sh. Nitish Rajora, Director Information; Ms. Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL; Sh. Dharminder Kohli, President of J&K Cine Association; senior officials, renowned artists, filmmakers, and distinguished guests from various fields.
