JK People’s Party Chief Sheeban Ashai Condemns Farooq Abdullah Over Dulat Revelations: Labels Him Architect of Betrayal and Political Decay in Kashmir

Syed Sajid Hussain, Srinagar, 16th April — In a scathing rebuttal to former RAW Chief A.S. Dulat’s recent revelations, JK People’s Party President Sheeban Ashai delivered a blistering critique of Farooq Abdullah, accusing him of perpetuating decades of deception and betrayal against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Ashai declared, “Farooq Abdullah is a man who has obstinately refused to introspect or reform. He bears direct responsibility for the catastrophic trajectory Kashmir has witnessed since the manipulated elections of 1987, which led to unprecedented bloodshed—costing the lives of over two hundred thousand people.” He further stated, “This is the very individual who usurped the National Conference in 1982—an institution once rooted in the legacy of the Reading Room Party and Plebiscite Front—and transformed it into a platform for opportunists, collaborators, and ideological turncoats. He vilified towering stalwarts of the Kashmiri resistance, men who led a principled political struggle from 1929 to 1975, labeling them as traitors. In 1996, despite solemn assurances from New Delhi, he chose power over principle, prioritizing the Chief Minister’s chair above the aspirations of the people.”Ashai accused Abdullah of dismantling the only viable political platform committed to the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, branding it “a dagger in the backs of the Kashmiri people.” He added, “Farooq Abdullah’s close aide in Delhi, A.S. Dulat, has now unmasked his duplicity before the world. The revelations place Abdullah’s political conduct on par with the infamy of Mir Sadiq.”Referring to Dulat’s book, Ashai highlighted that Farooq Abdullah allegedly expressed his willingness to endorse the unilateral abrogation of Article 370, lamenting only that New Delhi did not take him into confidence. “This eye-opening disclosure must serve as a moment of reckoning for all shades of Kashmiri leadership—mainstream or separatist. Their clandestine dealings will eventually be exposed, and they will have to answer to the people.”Ashai further charged that Farooq Abdullah has betrayed all sides—Kashmiris, Pakistan, and India alike—and holds him culpable for the present socio-political morass in the region. Declaring the political career of Abdullah all but over, Ashai said, “Dulat’s revelations are the final nail in the coffin of the Abdullah-led National Conference faction.”He concluded with a stern warning: “It is imperative for the Kashmiri people to hold him accountable for decades of duplicity—from appropriating the National Conference, which traces its origins to the Reading Room Party and Plebiscite Front, to his opportunistic alliances with JKLF militants for political leverage. His covert dealings with both Indian and Pakistani agencies must be unequivocally condemned. The new generation of Kashmiris rejects this brand of duplicitous, self-serving politics. The time has come for the political class to read the writing on the wall.”
