Severe storm alert issued for Jammu Kashmir as fatal weather events unfold

A fresh severe storms alert has been issued for Jammu Kashmir, warning of widespread rain and thunderstorms over the next 6 to 8 hours.According to the Kashmir Weather Forecast, intense showers, hailstorms, and gusty winds are likely in several areas across the region.The advisory comes in the wake of deadly weather events that struck the region over the past two days.On Sunday, a cloudburst in the Seri Bagna area of Ramban district claimed three lives, triggering panic among residents and causing significant damage.In another tragic incident, a man and a woman were killed after being struck by lightning in the remote Dugga area of Arnas tehsil in Reasi district on Saturday.The same thunderstorm also killed nearly 40 sheep and goats in the region, adding to the losses faced by the local pastoral community.Authorities had already flagged the risk of severe weather on Saturday, noting the development of powerful thundercloud bands over south Kashmir and western parts of Jammu.The storm system was expected to intensify and spread across the Valley by late evening, bringing with it a mix of extreme conditions.With more storms forecasted, residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid travel through vulnerable routes, and secure livestock and property as a precautionary measure.Rescue teams and disaster response units have been put on alert in affected districts.
